Description: The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion is an heirloom pepper variety that was once crowned the hottest pepper in the world. Originating from the tropical region of Trinidad and Tobago, this pepper is known for its intense heat and distinct fruity, sweet flavour, which makes it both a challenge and a delight for hot pepper enthusiasts.
Trinidad Moruga Scorpion peppers have a unique, wrinkled appearance with a characteristic scorpion-like tail, and they ripen to a vibrant red color. They can reach 2 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), placing them in third place of the hottest peppers globally. Only the Carolina Reaper and Pepper X are hotter.
Warning: The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion is one of the hottest peppers in the world. Handle with care! Always wear gloves when harvesting or preparing these peppers, and avoid contact with your eyes or skin. Only consume in very small amounts and keep out of reach of children and pets.
Seed Origin: Italy
Sowing: February to April
Harvesting: July to September
How To Grow Red Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Pepper From Seed: Peppers do best when grown in pots in a greenhouse, or in a polytunnel as they require plenty of heat. Sow in small pots or seedling modules. Sow 2 seeds per pot/cell. Cover lightly with compost and keep moist. Pepper seed germination will be best if kept in a room that is consistently above 22 degrees Celsius. A heat mat can be used to help achieve this.
When the seedlings get their first true leaves, pot them on into a larger pot. Repeat this as the plant grows, giving it a bigger pot as it grows.
After the plant flowers, the peppers will start to grow. They will turn from green to red as they ripen. They can be harvested once they are fully developed, even while still green.
Warning: The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion is one of the hottest peppers in the world. Handle with care! Always wear gloves when harvesting or preparing these peppers, and avoid contact with your eyes or skin. Only consume in very small amounts and keep out of reach of children and pets.
